Donna Urquhart is preparing to complete her attempt to run across Antarctica and earn a spot in the Guinness World Record™ , and TITAN Containers is supporting her every step of the way.

Urquhart is set to run the largest polar ultramarathon in history and we feel incredibly proud to be making a significant contribution to this 1,300km mission.

Urquhart set off on December 14 from Union Glacier Camp in Antarctica and aims to mark a significant milestone in the field of endurance events for women.

HOW CAN SOMEONE PREPARE TO RUN ACROSS ANTARCTIC?

Melbourne, where Urquhart lived, wasn’t exactly the ideal place on Earth to train for the race. The transition from Melbourne’s sunny 25°C conditions to the freezing -20°C and vast snow of Antarctica seemed impossible, until TITAN Containers decided to join the effort.

The TITAN Containers team provided Urquhart with access to the ArcticStore range of portable cold storage containers throughout the year.

These temperature-controlled containers , often used to store food by well-known companies such as Tesco and Thatchers, are capable of cooling in polar temperatures as low as -40°C. The containers became the ideal “training ground” for the 4,600 km Donna aimed to cover throughout 2023.

“It was really a valuable help. I learned what equipment I needed to have with me and how to use it. At one point when I was in the freezer, my drink froze! I learned how to use my equipment. We are really grateful to TITAN Containers…” 

It was a use case like no other. While our team in Melbourne is used to providing these refrigerated storage units for frozen products, vaccines and mechanical components for cold testing, now they had to equip them with a running machine and prepare them for a highly determined runner.

Urquhart isn’t just running for herself, she’s running for every girl involved in sports. All charitable contributions for Urquhart’s effort will go to organizations that aim to ensure girls stay active, healthy and happy, both physically and mentally.
